I am an Assistant Professor at the Dept. of DSAI & CSE in the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B), India. I also serve as the Honorary Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the Dept. of CS in the University of Liverpool (UoL), United Kingdom (UK) where I worked earlier as a full-time Lecturer/Assistant Professor prior to joining IIIT-B. I am a part of the Natural Language Processing group at UoL. I worked with Prof. Sophia Ananiadou as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the National Centre for Text Mining (NaCTeM), University of Manchester, UK. I earned my Ph.D. in 2021 from Indian Institute of Technology Patna, India. I am grateful to have Dr. Sriparna Saha and Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya as my Ph.D. supervisors.
My primary research area is 'Natural Language Processing' (NLP). Mostly my research is aimed on developing 'Dialogue Systems' (DS) in multi-lingual and multi-modal framework navigating the challenges of different task domains and applications. Independent target is set on addressing all the primary modules of DS which includes 'Natural Language Understanding', 'Dialogue Policy Learning' and 'Natural Language Generation' using Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning. Also interested in analyzing several aspects of human behavior and communication such as emotion, sentiment, sarcasm, humour etc. Investigations are being extended to analyse the content on 'social media' platforms such as Twitter and Reddit. Recently, I have also forayed into the area of 'NLP for Social Good' (such as Healthcare, Education, Legal Analytics, Climate etc.). I am also interested in making NLP systems 'Interpretable & Trustworthy'. Some of my research is also focused in the intersection of 'Vision and Language' such as Scene Graph Generation, Video Summarization etc.
I am looking for students who are interested to join me as Interns, MS by Research or Ph.D. scholars in the broad area of NLP at both IIIT-B & UoL. Some recent openings in the University of Liverpool, UK can be found here.
